What Are The Fees And Commissions That Modeling Agencies Charge Their Models And Do Models Really Need A Modeling Agency?

Many potential models often wonder what modeling agencies actually do for their models and supermodels and if it is really necessary for models to be represented by a modeling agency. Many young women also wonder what modeling agencies charge for their services and if they will actually be able to afford the fees and commissions that their modeling agency will charge them for their services. Thus, ZARZAR MODELING AGENCY known throughout the world as simply ZARZAR MODELS brings to you the answers to one of the most common modeling questions asked by potential new models: do I really need a modeling agency and how much will it cost me to have a modeling agency represent me throughout my modeling career?

The way agencies make money, and this goes for all legitimate agencies around the world, is that they charge the model a fee, normally around 20%, and the client, normally around 20%.

An example would be a client books a model for $1,000 per day. The model goes and works for the 8 hours. The agency then adds 20% to the $1,000 and bills the client for $1,200. The client pays and then the agency pays the model $1,000 minus 20% or $800. So here’s a question: if the agency charges the model 20% and the client 20% what percent does the agency earn on a booking? Is it 40%? – wrong. The entire invoice was $1,200 remember? And the agency earns $400 ($200 from the model and client each). So if you divide $400 by $1,200 you get approximately 33% which is how much an agency earns on a normal booking.

There are also no guarantees since in many cases an agency will work days, or even weeks, with a client on a booking only to have the client cancel it at the last minute, meaning the agency worked all those days or weeks for 33% of $0. That means zero or nothing for the arithmetically challenged.

Now to answer the more difficult question: do models really need a modeling agency? This question is actually a lot easier to answer than the previous modeling question regarding modeling fees charged by modeling agencies. The answer is simple: simply look around at the images above and below (those beautiful magazine covers filled with extremely successful supermodels for the rare few who missed them while reading this article). Finally, for those that still don’t get it (arithmetically challenged again) we have a modeling formula for them: totally unknown female model (and usually clueless about the inner workings of the fashion modeling industry) + world class modeling agency = sexy supermodels on world class magazine covers for the lucky few that make the cut. Add the modeling advise, guidance, training, and thousands of other advantages to having a modeling agency represent you and you may actually wonder why they charge so little for their services.

One final thought…If an agency (or multiple agencies) take you from $0 to $25,000,000.00 (that is $25 million United States Dollars for the arithmetically challenged) in annual earnings as Forbes reported for Supermodel Gisele Bundchen, do you really believe that such level of outstanding modeling performance would have been achieved without a modeling agency or agencies? Think about it for a moment: a client wants to lower his or her expenses as much as possible. You and your agency want to earn as much as possible, so the question is this: if your agency makes more money when you make more money, and if they are highly skilled in the negotiating table, would you prefer to handle the contracts or would you prefer to leave it to the professionals from your mother agency?

How Much Money Do Models Really Earn Or Make Per Day?

Many people often wonder how much models really earn or make per day for each modeling assignment, specially young models considering a career in high fashion modeling. In an effort to educate the public and those that are considering entering the modeling industry as high fashion models, editorial models, and runway models ZARZAR MODELING AGENCY known throughout the world as simply ZARZAR MODELS has created this informative article for those that are simply just wondering…

How Much Money Do Models Really Earn Or Make Per Day?

Let us start with New York City, the fashion capital of the United States of America:

The rates are highest in New York City where it is not unusual for a model to make $5,000 to $6,000 for an 8 hour day. That comes out to $750 per hour in United States Dollars. Now add the dollar amount earned for high fashion modeling to the prestige, glamour, and excitement of doing high fashion campaigns for Gucci, Prada, and Ralph Lauren and the rewards are priceless. Also, many top models charge a flat daily rate which means that if a client finishes early, the model is free to leave and actually earns more than $750 per hour! Thus, real modeling rates are more like $1,000.00 per hour for many New York models!

In most other markets within the United States such as Los Angeles and Miami the day rates for modeling are more like $1,500 to $2,000 per day. That comes out to $250 per hour in United States Dollars. However, even in these markets if a client is extremely interested in a model they will pay the higher New York City modeling rates. Thus, it is very common for a ZARZAR MODEL based in Beverly Hills or Los Angeles to earn over $2,000.00 per day at a minimum, and even ZARZAR MODELS based in San Diego, Southern California (where the fashion market is not as strong as Los Angeles and New York) can easily command modeling rates upward of $1,100.00 per day.

In most other markets not mentioned above the hourly rate can be around $150 United States Dollars and usually with some minimum amount of hours, such as a 4 hour minimum (half a day rate) as determined by the model’s agency. For example, if a client wishes to book a ZARZAR MODEL the minimum rate will be the half day rate even if they need the model for only 2 or 3 hours in order to protect the model’s earning power (this is because a 2 hour booking at noon can prevent a model from earning the full day rate somewhere else with a different fashion client). These rates are for what is called “print modeling” which includes magazine advertisements, catalogs, and brochures.
